List fonts in a Word document – method 2

There’s another way to make a list of all the fonts in a Word document. This method is probably faster than using VBA to search for fonts through large documents.

This is an alternative to the VBA code in How to list all fonts in a Word document

Word documents contain a list of fonts used in the document, cunningly named ‘FontTable’. Find this list by opening up the document file and looking at the little files inside, see How to look inside an Office document

There is NOT a similar fontTable.xml file in Excel or PowerPoint documents.

FontTable.xml

In the /word subfolder, open fontTable.xml in any text editor like NotePad++ or Notepad.

There’s a lot of detail but searching for ‘w:name=” will quickly find each of the fonts listed.
